The glove supporting communication (talking glove)
‘The glove supporting communication’ is an circuit, which I created in middle school in 2013. It gives potentially endless opportunities. It was designed to help the disabled – the mute and others who have problems with verbal communication. By using the device the individuals can communicate acoustically with the outside world.
The device enables human speech synthesis on the basis of the sentences taped by the user who performs appropriate hand gestures. These sentences are displayed on the screen in a chart with some other significant data. Thanks to the system that suggests the subsequent parts of the utterance, the process of building sentencess to synthesize does not take much time.
In the expanded version i.a. artificial neuron networks was implemented to recognize gestures.
Functions:
- hand gesture recognition based on data from 7 accelerometers and magnetic field sensors,
- swapping gestures into letters, words or whole sentences,
- synthesis of phrases created in Polish or English,
- the ability to build a database with associated words or sentences,
- the ability to connect to an external audio system.
The project took the first place at the World Exhibition of Inventions, Research and New Technologies "Brussels Innova 2013" and in the National Technological Innovation Olympiad in 2013. It was positively evaluated by technical specialists as a solution that could be a significant contributor to the promotion of Polish technical thought and intellectual potential in young Polish Inventors. "Gloves" was also nominated for the Podlasie Brand of the Year 2013 (the project took 2nd place in the consumer vote) as well as the Golden Keys of the magazine Kurier Poranny.
